James Tillard
d. 1814
Naval officer. Commander of the warship HMS Sabrina, 1810; captain, 1811. Witnessed the eruption in June 1812 that produced a new island off the Azores; he named it Sabrina Island, and claimed it for Great Britain, but it soon disappeared into the ocean.
