George Louis Palmella Busson (George) Du Maurier
1834–96
French-born illustrator, cartoonist, and novelist. Studied art in Paris, Antwerp, and Dusseldorf. Settled in London, 1860. Cartoonist for Punch from 1864. Illustrator for several novels and magazines. From the 1880s, owing to increasing eye problems, turned to writing. Author of Trilby.
