Philipp Phoebus
1804–80
German physician and pharmacologist. PhD in medicine, Berlin, 1827. Prosector at the Charité Hospital, Berlin, 1831; professor of medicine and pharmacology, Giessen, 1843. Founder of the first institute of pharmacology in Germany. Known for his pharmacological and toxicological research, for pioneering allergy studies, and as a campaigner for controlled pharmacies.
