John Edward Jenkins

1838–1910

Indian-born radical politician, social reformer, and satirist. Son of a Wesleyan missionary. Educated in Montreal, Canada, and the US. Called to the bar, 1864. Worked for the Aborigines Protection and Anti-Slavery Society. Anonymous author of Ginx’s baby, his birth and other misfortunes (1870), a satire on religious education. First agent-general in London for the dominion of Canada, 1874–6. MP for Dundee, 1874–80.
