1809–93

Journalist and writer on art. Daughter of Anne Palgrave and Edward Rigby. Cousin of Maria Turner, Joseph Dalton Hooker’s mother. Studied literature and art in the British Museum and the National Gallery, 1832. Travelled widely and wrote travel books from the mid-1830s to the 1840s. Married Charles Lock Eastlake in 1849; became Lady Eastlake in 1850. From the 1860s, wrote mostly on art history.
