Richard Clayton, 1st baronet
1745–1828
Translator. Called to the bar, 1771. Recorder of Wigan, 1815–28; constable of Lancaster Castle; British consul, Nantes, 1825–8. Married Ann, daughter of Charles White, in 1780. Published several translations of works in French, Latin, and Italian. Created baronet, 1774.
