Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward

1791–1868

Botanist and physician. Inherited his father’s medical practice in Whitechapel, London. Examiner in botany for the Society of Apothecaries, 1836–54. Invented the Wardian case for transporting plant specimens. An original member of the Botanical Society of Edinburgh and a founding member of the Microscopical Society. FRS 1852.
