Christian Andreas Victor (Victor) Hensen
1835–1924
German physiologist and marine biologist. Studied medicine at Würzburg, Berlin, and Kiel, 1854–9. Habilitated in anatomy and histology, Kiel, 1860; professor extraordinarius, physiology and embryology, 1864; professor, 1868–1911. Led several marine biological expeditions, notably the Atlantic plankton expedition, 1889. Worked on the physiology and comparative anatomy of the nervous system and sensory organs.
