Francis Thomas Gregory

1821–88

Surveyor and explorer in Australia. Assistant surveyor, Western Australia, 1847–9; staff surveyor, 1849. Commanded an expedition to the Gascoigne River in 1858. Campaigned for the establishment of a colony on the north-west coast of Australia. Awarded the founder’s medal of the Royal Geographical Society, 1863. Brother of Augustus Charles Gregory.
