James Richard (Dick) Atkin, Baron Atkin

1867–1944

Australian-born judge. Son of Mary Elizabeth and Robert Travers Atkin. Returned with his mother and brothers to Wales in 1871. Won scholarships to Magdalen College, Oxford, and Gray’s Inn. Called to the bar, 1891; took silk, 1906; appointed to the High Court bench, 1913; promoted to the Court of Appeal, 1919; appointed to the final Court of Appeal as a lord of appeal-in-ordinary, 1928.
