Robert Waring Darwin, of Elston
1724–1816
Lawyer and botanist. Son of Robert Darwin of Elston (1682–1754) and Elizabeth Darwin (1702–97). Brother of Erasmus Darwin (1731–1802). Matriculated at Cambridge 1743–4; admitted to Lincoln’s Inn, 1743; barrister, 1751. Had a taste for poetry and botany. Published Principia botanica in 1787.
