William Henry Mahoney Christie

Astronomer. BA, Cambridge (Trinity College), 1868; fellow, 1869. Chief assistant at the Royal Greenwich Observatory, 1870; astronomer royal, 1881. President of Royal Astronomical Society, 1888–90. Retired in 1910. Transformed Greenwich Observatory into a modern scientific establishment, and observed solar eclipses. Knighted, 1904.
