Writer, surgeon, and pro-vivisection campaigner. BA, Oxford, 1878. Studied medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, 1878–85. FRCS 1885. Aural surgeon, Middlesex Hospital, 1897; consulting surgeon, 1917. Secretary, Association for the Advancement of Medical Research, 1888. Published several biographies 1897–1919; wrote for young people on health issues and lectured at military camps during the First World War.
