Ellen Frances Lubbock (1834/5-1879) was the daughter of Peter Hordern, clergyman of Chorlton-cum-Hardy in Lancashire. She married banker, politician, and naturalist John Lubbock in 1856 and they lived near Charles Darwin in Kent, England until 1861. Ellen was a highly involved scientific wife: she served as her husband’s secretary, editor, and observer. She arranged and attended meetings for her husband and was politically engaged. She shared her own scientific observations and relevant readings with Darwin.
