Carl Johann Gustav (Gustav) Hartlaub

1814–1900

German ornithologist and physician. MD, Göttingen, 1838. Studied in several countries in Europe. Practised in Bremen, 1841–90. Made significant contributions to the collection of birds in the Bremen natural history society museum. Editor, Jahresberichte über die Leistungen in der Naturgeschichte der Vögel, 1846–71. Published on the birds of Madagascar, west and east Africa, and Indonesia.
