Friedrich Karl Christian Ludwig (Ludwig) Büchner
1824–99
German materialist philosopher and physician. Lecturer in medicine, especially forensic medicine, at Tübingen University, 1854–5. Following the publication of his first work, Kraft und Stoff (1855), he was debarred from academic teaching and returned to general medicine.
