8th April

My dear Darwin.

I drove to Spottiswoodes2 yesterday but he was not at home: then I drove to the Athenæum & I caught Spencer whom I know to be a dissipated individual & a billiard player—during the afternoon.3 I thought it well to secure his presence today; and he therefore like myself will be with you at about half past one oClock.4
