To John Murray   31 December [1867]1

Down. | Bromley. | Kent. S.E.

Dec 31st.

My dear Sir

Mr. Clair Grece has asked me to give him an introduction to you. He wishes to publish & translate from the German a large & profound work on the principles of english grammar, & the believes the work to possess the highest value.2 I have not the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with Mr. Grece, but he was so kind as to send me translations of several passages in Greek authors bearing on Natural Selection;3 and I believe him to be endowed with much learning. I do not doubt that he would bring out an excellent translation of the work which interests him so much.4

I remain, my dear Sir | yours sincerely | Charles Darwin

To | John Murray Esqre | 50 Albemarle St
