My dear Sir

At last I am able to send last corrected sheet.—1

Please look at back of Title-page: if you object to my inserting my Geological works, strike them out;2 I care little. Please look also, at Postscript p. XII; I most particularly hope you will not object to this insertion.3

Please forward the sheet without loss of time to Messrs Clowes.4 Please do not forget in any Advertisement to insert “with Additions & corrections”. Is Third Edition with additions ever printed on Back of Cloth??

Will you oblige me by kindly distributing copies by enclosed list, which please do not lose.—5

I hope you will be generous & present me some copies. Has my Journal sold at all satisfactorily?6

Summary

If JM disapproves of inserting CD’s geological works on back of title-page [of Origin, 3d ed.], he should strike them out. CD cares little. Reminds him to insert "additions and corrections" in advertisements. Sends list for presentation copies.

Asks whether his Journal of researches has sold at all satisfactorily.
