Dr Sir

I have tried the Fish with Oats and the two sorts of Seeds that you sent1 The Tench and Cm Carp and Gold Fish take Both Sorts equally well but I cannot get them to take Oats but if I ever succeed will let you know the result

CD’s annotations refer to an entry in his Experimental book, p. 18 (DAR 157a), that reads: ‘Fish ate Yellow Water Lily & Potamogeton seeds— 3 Water Lily seeds passed through a Stork, but did not germinate’.

Summary

Fish will take both sorts of seeds sent by CD, but will not take oats.
