Dear Dyer

Very many thanks for all your kindness about the Orchids.—2 I received the enclosed this morning; they look pretty & curious & I thought you might like to see them & then throw away.—3

Your article in last Nature seemed to me a capital one.—4

Yours very sincerely | Ch. Darwin

Footnotes

The year is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter to W. T. Thiselton-Dyer, 3 August 1876.
See letter to W. T. Thiselton-Dyer, 3 August 1876 and n. 1. Thiselton-Dyer evidently sent some of the orchids CD had requested, but there is no entry in the ‘Outwards book’ (Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew) to indicate what was sent.
The specimen sent by CD has not been identified.
Thiselton-Dyer’s article ‘On the classification of the vegetable kingdom’ was published in Nature, 3 August 1876, pp. 293–5.

Summary

Thanks for WTT-D’s kindness about the orchids.
