My dear Sir

I believe that your kindness will lead you to aid me if it is in your power. I much want, for some experiments in crossing, seeds of Nolana prostrata & Hibiscus Africanus, which have been matured in Germany or in the more Southern parts of Europe, & therefore under somewhat different conditions from those of England.1 You will greatly oblige me if you can send pretty soon a few of these seeds in a letter.

CD had earlier asked Joseph Dalton Hooker for seeds of Hibiscus africanus (a synonym of H. trionum, bladder ketmia) and Nolana prostrata (a synonym of N. paradoxa, Chilean-bellflower) but Hooker was unable to supply any (see letter from J. D. Hooker, 1 July 1870 and n. 1).

Summary
