From Albert Gaudry1   2 December 1876

2 Décembre 1876

Monsieur,

Sir,

I have just received the translation of your fine work on the Habits of climbing plants.2 I am very honoured that an eminent master like yourself thinks to send me all his works. I have been busy for rather a long time preparing a work on series in the animal world over geological time. As the section relating to mammals is nearly finished, I will publish it before the whole of my work has been completed.3

But, as I have many engravings in the text to show the imperceptible gradations of the fossil forms, the printing will take several more months. When my book is ready, I will send it to you. I dare to hope that you will find there some remarks that may interest you.

Please, Sir, accept the expression of my very respectful regards, Albert Gaudry
