Richard Simpson

1820–76

Biographer and Shakespearian scholar. Vicar, Mitcham, Surrey, 1844–5; then converted to the Roman Catholic faith. After several years of continental travel, returned to England, where he edited The Rambler, a liberal Catholic magazine, until 1862. In his later years, chiefly conducted research on Shakespeare.
