At this present moment I care more about Drosera than the origin of all the species in the world Darwin to Charles Lyell, 24 November [1860]

Darwin became fascinated by the large number of insects caught by the common sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) while on holiday in Sussex in 1860, shortly after Origin of species was published.

He experimented on the sensitivity of the plants to various household substances. In the early 1870s, he tested more exotic substances on them and carried out more complex experiments.
