Sir,
Mr. Charles Pearson, having applied to be appointed an Agent of this Company at Down and having referred us to you for any information we might require respecting his qualifications for such an Agency, I should feel much obliged by your stating how far you consider him eligible for such an appointment, and whether, from your knowledge of his character and circumstances, you think that the Directors would be justified in according him their full confidence.1
I need hardly add that your reply will be treated as strictly confidential.
