Darwin Correspondence Project

To J. V. Carus   1 February 1873

Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

Feb 1 1873

My dear Sir

I am glad to hear of the new edit. I have at present no corrections to suggest, though I hope in a year or two’s time to bring out an improved edition.1

Thanks for the reference about not breathing.2 I suppose Herr Koch has taken the proper steps about the heliotypes.3

yours very sincerely | Ch Darwin

Footnotes

See letter from J. V. Carus, 29 January 1873 and n. 1; CD refers to the new German edition of Expression (Carus trans. 1874). No new English edition of Expression appeared in CD’s lifetime. The second edition of Expression, edited by Francis Darwin, contained material collected by CD (see Expression 2d ed., p. iii).
CD’s publisher, John Murray, supplied the heliotype plates for all the foreign editions (see Correspondence vol. 20, letter from R. F. Cooke, 1 August 1872). Eduard Koch was the head of E. Schweizerbart’sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, the German publisher of CD’s works.
