Lady Lubbock2 has been so good as to return to me the enclosed & has given me your address. I have been asked to send it to you. As you perhaps will not have a large envelope with you, I enclose one addressed, & I shd be obliged if you will post the statement & my circular.3

See circular to various scientific men, [7 April 1874], and letter from Michael Foster, 7 April [1874]. The statement has not been found; CD evidently sent the circular, together with Foster’s statement of appeal for the Zoological Station at Naples, to Lubbock’s home address. Lubbock’s journal records on 8 April 1874: ‘Took Harriet & the children for a few days to Alum Bay. Nelly would not come’ (British Library, Add Ms 62680: supplementary Avebury papers).
