Hochgeehrter Herr!

Heute gab ich ein Packet zur Post enthaltend zwei Exemplare des ersten Bandes Ihres neuesten Werkes über die Abstamung des Menschen.2

Falls Sie noch mehrere Exemplare in Deutschland verschenken wollen, so bitte nur gefaell. die Adressen angeben zu wollen. Mit Vergnügen habe ich gelesen dass in England bereits der zweite Abdruck noethig geworden ist.3 Nach den vorausbestellten Exemplaren zu rechnen, hat das Buch auch in Deutschland einen guten Absatz zu erwarten, obgleich ein Resultat, bei den eigenthüml. Einwicklungen des deutschen Buchhandels, erst spaeter zu ersehen ist.

Indem ich Ihnen nochmals für Ihre Freundlichkeit danke, dass Sie mir auch dieses mal den Verlag des Werkes moeglich gemacht haben, hoffe ich, dass auch Ihre künftigen Werke bei mir erscheinen werden.4

Der II Band folgt in ca. 2 Monaten nach und werde nicht verfehlen Ihnen denselben sofort zu übermitteln.5

Dear Sir!

Today I posted a packet containing two copies of the first volume of your latest work on the descent of man.2

Should you desire to give away further copies in Germany, I beg you to kindly provide me with the addresses. With great satisfaction I have read that in England it has already become necessary to start a second impression.3 Judging from the number of copies ordered in advance, your book can be expected to sell well also in Germany, but due to the peculiar convolutedness of the German booktrade we shall not know how well until later.

Let me thank you again for having been so obliging as to enable me to act as the publisher also of this work. May I hope that your future publications will also be entrusted to me?4

The second volume will follow in about two months and I shall not fail to dispatch it to you at once.5
