Stuttgart

den 17. Juni 1869.

Hochgeehrter Herr!

Hochachtungsvoll u Ergebenst | E Schweizerbart’sche Verlagshdlg Eduard Koch

Most esteemed Sir!

You will have heard already through Prof. Carus—Leipzig that the fourth ed. of “Entstehung der Arten” will soon be begun. Mr Carus tells me that you were so kind as to send him the proof-sheets for the fifth English edition of the work.2

I am very content with the sales of “Variiren” and can tell you that in about two years a second edition will be needed.3

Professor Dub—Berlin has been in touch with me regarding the publication of an exposition of your theory that would be easily comprehensible even for the general public, and for this purpose we will embellish it with a number of illustrations, which will make certain points clearer to the lay person.4

My best thanks for your support on this occasion of my rights to the German translation and I shall regard the best possible preparation of your books as a duty of gratitude towards you.

Recently, a brochure by Prof. Jaeger on “the position of the Darwinian theory with regard to morals and religion” has appeared here.5 Should you not have received it as yet I can send it to you, and remain

Respectfully and most devotedly yours | E. Schweizerbart’sche Verlagshandlung Eduard Koch.
