Hochgeehrter Herr!
In Ihrem so freundlichen Briefe vom 10. Febr. d. J. theilten Sie mir mit, dass Sie die Herrn Williams und Norgate beauftragt hätten, auf dem Wege des Buchhandels das für mich bestimmte Cirripedien-Material an mich gelangen zu lassen.2 Da inzwischen 5 Wochen verflossen sind und das Paquetchen noch nicht eingetroffen ist, auch eine durch die Elwertsche Buchhandlung3 nach Leipzig gerichtete Anfrage zu keinem Resultate führte, so fange ich an Besorgniss zu hegen, dass möglicherweise eine Verwechselung das Paquetchen an eine andere Adresse oder an einen anderen Ort geführt hat, oder sonst irgend ein anderes Malheur passirt ist und erlaube mir Sie davon in Kenntniss zu setzen mit der Bitte, die Herren Williams und Norgate zu unterrichten, da auf diese Weise ein möglicher Irrthum am besten beseitigt wird. Es thut mir sehr leid, Ihre Güte mit dieser vielleicht etwas unbescheidenen aber doch wohl begründeten Bitte missbrauchen zu müssen, ich hoffe aber Sie werden meine Freimuth gütigst entschuldigen.

Most esteemed Sir!
In your kind letter of 10 February this year, you informed me that you had instructed Messrs Williams and Norgate to dispatch, via booksellers, the cirripede \linebreak material that you intended for me.2 As 5 weeks have since passed and the little parcel has not yet arrived, and as an inquiry through Elwert's bookshop3 to Leipzig has also failed to yield any results, I am beginning to fear that possibly the little parcel may have been delivered to another address or to another town, or that some other mishap has befallen it, and I presume to notify you of this with the request that you inform Messrs Williams and Norgate, as this seems the best way to clear up a potential misunderstanding. I am very sorry to have to abuse your kindness with this perhaps somewhat presumptuous yet surely justified request, and I hope that you will kindly forgive my frankness.
