Dear Sir

Chas Darwin June 6th.

Footnotes

There are annotations at the top of the letter probably made by Folthorp: No. 7– 57 . 16 . 11 8– 51 . 16 . 2 ———— 109 . 13 . 1 These refer to the accounts rendered by Smith, Elder & Co. for the two most recent numbers of Zoology; the expenses for No. 7 (Fossil Mammalia, No. 2) and for No. 8 (Fossil Mammalia, No. 3). See letter to A. Y. Spearman, 27 May 1839, n. 1. At the foot of the page, in the same hand: Qy Smiths No 5. 52 . 15 . This probably refers to a query about number 5 of Andrew Smith’s Illustrations of the zoology of South Africa, also published by Smith, Elder & Co. with a grant from the Treasury.
