As a fellow of the Linnean Society CD was entitled to receive, free of charge, all volumes, or parts of volumes, of the society’s Transactions and Journal (List of the Linnean Society of London, 1865). CD’s copies of the Transactions of the Linnean Society of London, for the 1860s and some other years, are in the Darwin Library–CUL. The bearer may have been George Snow, who ran a carrier service between London and Down every Thursday (Post Office directory of the six home counties 1866). In 1865, 8 February fell on a Wednesday.
