My dear Hooker

At p. xxxvi. amongst Nat. orders with upwards of 34 ths of genera endemic you give “Cruciferæ” amidst strange associates.2 at p xxxvii amongst Nat. orders with between 34 & 12 not endemic you again give “Cruciferæ”. Is the first a misprint, or do I quite misunderstand list?— I have thought that it wd. be just worth drawing your attention to, this, for if a misprint, it cd easily be corrected by hand.—

Yours affect | C. Darwin

Do not write on purpose, but sometime explain, for I was surprised to see Cruciferæ in 1st. list.—

Footnotes

Dated by the reference to Hooker 1859, which CD received on 22 December 1859 (see letter to J. D. Hooker, 23 [December 1859]).
In CD’s copy of Hooker 1859, p. xxxvi (Darwin Library–CUL), the word ‘Cruciferæ’ has been deleted and ‘Coniferæ’ inserted.

Summary

Queries possible misprint in JDH’s introduction to Flora Tasmaniae.
