I am very much obliged to you for your kindness in sending me the larvæ of the Balanus.2 I have seen them before but they are very fine specimens, & I daresay will hereafter come in very useful, & I will carefully preserve them.

Dated on the basis of the paper, which has a narrow mourning border and appears to be the same as the paper used for the following letter.
The larvae in the first stage of Balanus and other Balanidae are discussed in the section on metamorphoses of cirripedes in Living Cirripedia (1854): 104–14, but Hyndman’s specimens are not specifically mentioned.
