As I am in the neighbourhood of the “Statistical Account” I thought I might as well find Chapter & verse for my parallels. They are p 446 of the vol for Inverness. See also p 507.1

CD had apparently asked for more detailed information on the Scottish terraces mentioned in Murchison, Verneuil, and Keyserling 1845, 1: 550–1 (see Thackray 1978 for the history of the publication of this work). The new statistical account of Scotland vol. 14 (1845) (Inverness— Ross and Cromarty) refers (p. 446) to parallel roads in the valley of the River Nairn; p. 507 gives an explanation of their formation and refers to CD’s theory of the formation of the roads of Glen Roy.
