To J. D. Hooker   [4 March 1868]1

6 Queen Anne St

Wednesday

My dear Hooker

I have just discovered a stupid oversight— I read your letter that you were going to Norwich on Tuesday, so did not know where to write.— I shd like excessively to dine at your Club;2 but I must leave it as a mere chance— May I do this?? I can find out from Busk when you meet.3 I suppose if my head begins to swim I can go away at any time. after dinner—

Your affect.— | C. Darwin

If I do not hear, I will understand that I may leave it uncertain till last minute— I could not have come today

Footnotes

The date is established by the relationship between this letter and the letter from J. D. Hooker, [3 March 1868].
George Busk. CD may have meant to ask where rather than when the meeting would take place, since Hooker had mentioned the time in his letter of [3 March 1868].

Summary

Arrangements to dine at JDH’s club.
