I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your very obliging letter of November the 28th together with the Diploma of the “Reale Accademia de Lincei”.1

I request that you will inform the Academy how deeply I feel the distinguished honour of being elected a Foreign Associate.

It is peculiarly gratifying to me to have been thus honoured by the chief Scientific Society of the Italian nation in the eternal city of Rome.
