Alexander Bridport Becher
1796–1876
Naval officer and hydrographer. Catalogued holdings of the Hydrographic Office, 1823–6, and was subsequently appointed chief assistant to the hydrographer. Founding editor of Nautical Magazine, 1832–71. Gained the rank of rear admiral the year before his retirement in 1865.
