Edward Livingston Youmans
1821–87
American writer, editor, and promoter of science education. Took a degree in medicine circa 1852, but did not practise. Wrote and lectured on scientific subjects. Advised the Appleton company on scientific publications and translations; founded their International Scientific Series in 1871. Founded the Popular Science Monthly in 1872.
