Richard Bowdler Sharpe

1847–1909

Ornithologist and museum curator. Librarian of the Zoological Society of London, 1867–72. Wrote and edited scholarly works on birds, supplied the ornithological section of Zoological Record, and lectured. Published his Monograph of the kingfishers between 1868 and 1871. Senior assistant at the British Museum, 1872–95; assistant keeper of vertebrates from 1895. Worked on the British Museum catalogue of birds. Founded the British Ornithologists’ Club in 1892.
