Augustus Frederick Oldfield

1820–87

Botanist and ethnologist. Collected plants in Australia and Tasmania for Ferdinand von Mueller and others during the 1850s. Placed botanical information and specimens at the disposal of Joseph Dalton Hooker and George Bentham. Acquired extensive knowledge of the Australian aborigines. Returned to England by 1863. Became blind circa 1867.
