William James Beal
1833–1924
American botanist and teacher. Schoolteacher in Union Springs, New York, 1859–68; studied under Louis Agassiz and Asa Gray at Harvard University. Lectured in botany at the University of Chicago, 1868–71. Taught at Michigan Agricultural College, 1871–1910.
