Claude Thomas Alexis (Alexis) Jordan
1814–97
French botanist. Conducted field research, 1836–46, to complete and correct existing French floras. Assembled an important private herbarium. After giving up his botanical expeditions, worked in his own experimental gardens, trying to demonstrate the stability of species. A strong opponent of transmutation theory.
