George Birkbeck Norman (George) (Birkbeck) Hill
1835–1903
Writer and editor. BA, Oxford, 1858; BCL 1866; DCL 1872. Assistant at Bruce Castle school, 1858; head, 1868; retired in 1876 owing to illness. Became a frequent contributor to magazines such as the Saturday Review and the Pall Mall Gazette from 1869. Published a six-volume edition of James Boswell’s life of Samuel Johnson in 1887.
