Charles-Théophile Gaudin

1822–66

Swiss palaeontologist. Tutor to the family of Lord Ashley in England from 1845 to 1851, when he returned to Switzerland and began his palaeontological studies. Collaborated in the publication of Mémoires sur les animaux vertébrés trouvés dans le terrain sidérolithique du canton de Vaud (1852). Tutor to the daughter of Mme de Rumine from 1854, spending many winters in Italy, where he contined his research. Member of the Sociétés Helvetique et Vaudoise de Sciences Naturelles.
