On 17 December 1873, CD recorded a payment of £5 5s. for the Pengelly testimonial in his Account books–cash account (Down House MS). The testimonial to William Pengelly by members of the British Association for the Advancement of Science was made in recognition of Pengelly’s services to science, especially in regard to his part in the exploration of Kent’s Cavern, Torquay.
