I seem to have written “at p. 54”   I should have written “p 54” simply.² The Prehistoric Congress paged their reprints separately as most English Periodicals do, and you appear by your Post Card to have had only a “Separat-Abdruck” from Busk—³ The Russian Imperial Academy keep the pagination of the Series upon the page of each Separat Abdruck together with the page of each such separate republication. And we may learn from them as from other savages—

At p. 28 of your first Volume there is a note numbered 38. In this note you refer to p. 54 of Busk’s paper in the Prehistoric Congress Trans. for 1869.⁴ This volume I have before me as I write. It is paged in the Transaction Volume from 106 to 166. The passage you quote is in a note at p. 159. Counting the fly leaf as one, you see the 54^th. page of the Separate Republication would correspond to p. 159 of the volume whence the Extract was made.

The whole alteration I suggested in the interests of persons not favoured with separate copies of Busk’s paper with the substitution of 159 for 54 in note 38. p. 28. Vol. i—
