To W. E. Darwin [before 29 October 1857]1
[Down]
We have just begun the horrid mess of plaistering all the new rooms;2 for all the outside plaister had to be stripped off. Lewis found the floor-boards so damp, that he could not lay down the floor in any of the rooms; & the ceilings are so damp, that they cannot be white-washed.—
My dear William | Your affect. Father | C. Darwin
