My dear Waterhouse

I heard on Wednesday at the Museum that you were expected soon back. Mr. & Mrs Lyell, Forbes & Prof. Ramsay are coming to a late dinner here on next Saturday (12th) & return on Monday Morning. Cannot you join us: I hope you will if you possibly can. Forbes & Ramsay leave London Bridge at 4o. 45’ & take a Fly at Sydenham, you had better join them. I shall ask, also, Sir R. Schomburgk.2

I hope you will come. I want to hear some news of your foreign trip.

Robert Hermann Schomburgk, who had recently returned from an exploring expedition to British Guiana. In 1848 he was appointed consul to St Domingo. Neither he nor Waterhouse was among the guests the following weekend.
